Sailing in Overijssel
Overijssel is a beautiful province in the east of the Netherlands and especially known for the many Hanseatic cities present in the province. Hanseatic cities were, especially in the Middle Ages, very important cities. They played a crucial role in trade and formed associations with each other to protect their economic interests. Partly because of their role in the times, these cities also had a great impact on northwestern Europe. Today, Overijssel is a stronghold of several rivers and lakes that mark the province. For example, you have the 127 km long IJssel River that runs right through the province, as a Dutch branch of the Rhine. A special thing to see is that the IJssel is home to a lot of large cities, which makes it perfect for boating. Rent a boat and you'll cruise along the IJssel past many historic cities and natural areas.
