Explore Vinkeveen by renting a boat
The Vinkeveen lakes are divided into 3 lakes, the Noordplas, the Zuidplas and the Kleine plas. The Noordplas is the largest lake of the 3 and also the deepest. This is because a lot of sand extraction took place there in the 1960s/70s.They used the sand to build the Bijlmer and the A2 motorway. Now that the Noorderplas is up to 50 metres deep, there is a lot of wave action that can damage the old dykes.Twelve sand islands have been created to act as dykes. These sand islands form a unique spot for recreation and most of them can only be reached by boat.
The Vinkeveen lakes are known for their water sports area of up to nine hundred hectares. but the Vinkeveen area offers much more than just water sports. Visit one of the municipality's six forts or climb the Sacred Heart of Jesus church for breathtaking views. Cycle or walk around the green polder and enjoy the beautiful vistas and views through the varied landscape. Vinkeveen is also full of numerous nice cafes and restaurants to take a break. In short, there is plenty to do for young and old.
The water in the vinkeveense plassen is one of the cleanest in the Netherlands. Combined with the depth, this is also a perfect place for diving. Divers come from far and wide to admire the special underwater world with visibility of up to 20 metres. For this, you'll need a divers licence.
