Friesland

The Dutch province of Friesland (pronounced as Freese-land, just like cheese!) is known for its many lakes. That’s why it’s a very popular area among both national and international water sports lovers. From regular sailing to ‘skûtsjesilen’, sailing with typical Frysian boats, there are plenty of possibilities for families, daytrippers and party people. When you’ve had enough of the water, there’s plenty to do on land, too!

For example, you can combine your boat trip with a visit to some of the towns in Friesland, such as Leeuwarden, Franeker and Sneek. These towns are known for the ‘Eleven Cities Tour’ (Elfstedentocht in Dutch), a national ice skating contest, leading past all of the eleven historical cities of Friesland. Both for short stays and longer trips there are plenty of towns to discover.

When you’re in Friesland for a little longer, you can make the crossing to the West Frisian Islands and go cycling or hiking. Make sure to try the local fish dish, too!

Are you ready for some more adventure? For all those party lovers out there, there’s the annual “Sneekweek” in the summer; water sports and party combined! This is the biggest sailing event in Europe and attracts a lot of people. Are you not much of a party animal, but do you still want to rent a boat? We’re sure you can have your own party! Let the adventure begin!
